The house was a beautiful two storey home with a large basement that accommodated a beautiful family room with custom build cabinetry and a large rec-area with a custom build bar that were all finished with dark colour stain.
Beautiful, large kitchen with custom build cabinet gets treated with the same, dark rich stain .
Dark stained cabinets stand out against the light wall colour.
In the upper floor of the home, a custom built bed fills this small space under the window (quite clever unless one would feel claustrophobic sleeping there :-) was finished with a solid colour lacquer, same as the frames around the niches, window frames and baseboards. Light and practical choice for the small space.
Custom cabinets and shelves in the master bedroom stained and lacquered bring a touch of elegance and classy to this closet space.
Off-white colour lacquer on the trim in this bathroom keeps things light and airy and visually uncluttered with the use of light tones and colours.
Hope you enjoyed my little tour of a perfect example of using dark woods mixed with light finishes. Remember, having your heart set on dark wood doesn't mean you have to do all the same in the entire house. Finishing some of the trim and woodwork in certain areas of your home in a light colour lacquer will make the area more monochromatic, light and practical, not to mention more cost efficient. It is just like having best of both worlds.
TIP: For an off-white trim colour take your inspiration from the wall colour.
Until next time, enjoy making your home beautiful!
